With seven kids between them, Paige and Gretchen have seen a tantrum or two. So has Dr. Rene Hackney, founder of Parenting Playgroups, and she filled the mommies in on techniques for avoiding tantrums, and then what to do when one (oops) happens anyway. You’ll want to try her techniques for tracking triggers, teaching “emotion language,” and more.

When Dr. Rene Hackney of Parenting Playgroups talks about “compliance,” she means getting your child to do what you say, when you say it. Paige and Gretchen got pretty excited about that idea! We always love Dr. Hackney’s advice, and in this show she shares some great techniques for getting your child to really hear what you say and then…do it. How sweet is that?
Check out Rene's book, Eight Weeks to Positive Discipline!

Dr. Rene Hackney, author of Eight Weeks to Positive Discipline and owner of
Parenting Playgroups, Inc., talks with Paige and Gretchen about how children learn from consequences. The Mommies share the consequences of sibling squabbling (uh, oh) in their homes, and Dr. Hackney teaches how parents can create consequences that relate to their child’s behavior. This is great advice for the beginning of the school year!

Gretchen and Paige speak with Rene Hackney, PhD from Parenting Play Groups. Dr. Hackney shares the 3 basic skills that make it possible to discipline with love:
- "I" messages: Blaming the behavior, not the child,
- Empathy: Validating your children's negative emotions, and
- Positive Intent: Finding a good reason for the bad behavior.
