With seven kids between them, Paige and Gretchen have seen a tantrum or two. So has Dr. Rene Hackney, founder of Parenting Playgroups, and she filled the mommies in on techniques for avoiding tantrums, and then what to do when one (oops) happens anyway. You’ll want to try her techniques for tracking triggers, teaching “emotion language,” and more.

Disposable diapers can be a mom’s best friend. We can’t live without them, but what are they really made of? How do they work? Gretchen and Paige visit the Pampers facility in Cincinnati, Ohio to take apart a diaper and see what’s inside. Proctor and Gamble Senior Researcher, Joann Hoover shows the mommies several of the tests that Pampers diapers go through, including trapping and de-watering a synthetic BM. Since the average baby uses 7,500 diapers a year, this is good information to have! You can also visit Pampers Village, for all of the Pampers products available, and for help choosing which product is just right for your baby.

When Dr. Rene Hackney of Parenting Playgroups talks about “compliance,” she means getting your child to do what you say, when you say it. Paige and Gretchen got pretty excited about that idea! We always love Dr. Hackney’s advice, and in this show she shares some great techniques for getting your child to really hear what you say and then…do it. How sweet is that?
Check out Rene's book, Eight Weeks to Positive Discipline!

Almost every parent has had the no fun job of dealing with a child who is a “picky eater.” With that in mind, Gretchen and Paige had the pleasure of interviewing Julia Mutter, a registered Dietician, who gave them some pointers on how to broaden the culinary horizons, and improve the health of our little ones. Gretchen and Paige speak with Rene Hackney, PhD from Parenting Play Groups. Dr. Hackney shares the 3 basic skills that make it possible to discipline with love:
- "I" messages: Blaming the behavior, not the child,
- Empathy: Validating your children's negative emotions, and
- Positive Intent: Finding a good reason for the bad behavior.
